In the mid-nineties I spent an afternoon smashing mirrors, glas and China while recording the smashing, breaking and crackling with different microphones. I wanted to break the spell that breaking a mirror brings 7 years of bad luck.

With this piece I wanted to break this spell and liberate myself from a cliché. It seemed/seems an unspoken fact that only a beautiful woman is considered a real woman, and supposedly only beautiful women will be taken seriously. This cliché seemed/s to be a worldwide issue - at least as far as my horizon reached/s.

So I asked friends from different countries to record the fairytale question "mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of us all?" to point at this ridiculous question. A question that introduced - or even imposed - rivalry between women. This rivalry between women was an effective method to keep existing partriarchic power structures in place, preventing the empowerment of women for centuries by sowing discord instead.
